The latest advertising campaign from the Niagara Tourism and Convention Corporation (NTCC) is focused on targeting empty nesters within a few hours drive to visit the area during the fall months.

The six week long campaign kicked off September 6 and runs through October 10 in Syracuse, Utica, Elmira, Cleveland, Columbus, Erie, Pa. and Pittsburgh. The $165,000 campaign features radio, television and online advertising in addition to more than $150,000 in added value media. This is the second full scale advertising campaign of the year for NTCC.

“While summer is the prime tourism season for our region, we have seen increased interest in the shoulder seasons of spring and fall,” said President and CEO John Percy, NTCC. “Many of the region’s popular attractions operate through late October or maintain a year-round schedule. Empty nesters tend to have more flexible travel schedules than families and can travel in the fall.”

Just Buffalo Literary Center and CEPA Gallery are pleased to announce the 3rd Annual Writing With Light Student Exhibition. A celebratory reception will be held on Friday, September 10, 2010 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at CEPA Gallery in the Market Arcade building, 617 Main Street, Buffalo.

Featuring selected works from Just Buffalo & CEPA Gallery’s education programs from the past year, the exhibit will display work from Picturing Poetry, Writer Residencies, and Bookmaking projects.

Writing With Light reached more than 3,500 K-12 students across the region this year, and its emphasis on intensive one-on-one contact between teaching artists and students yields powerful creative results. 

Genevieve DeCarlo, a 3rd grade teacher at Discovery School, P.S. 67 explains, "It was amazing to see the growth of my students... All children should be able to have this awesome learning experience!"

The Aquarium of Niagara is thrilled to announce that we have officially
been accepted into the Pepsi Refresh Project and voting is now open.

The Pepsi Refresh Project is a national initiative that awards grants to people, businesses and non-profit organizations with ideas that will have a positive impact on the community around them.

BUFFALO, NY - Former Niagara Falls Mayor Vince Anello appeared in court Thursday morning to take a plea deal.

Anello plead guilty to a felony charge of making false statements to the IBEW Local 237, after leaving office.  In return, prosecutors are dropping charges of bribery in a separate case. 

Anello faces 10 to 16 months in jail when he's sentenced. 

Anello had an electrical business prior to becoming mayor in 2004.  When he retired from the union he started receiving a pension of about $4,000 per month.  But the government charge claims he violated union rules after he left his job as myaor by working more than the permitted 40 hours per month, and ultimately stealing nearly $100,000 from the pension fund.
