Kenan Center to Present Extraordinary Exhibit of Craft Art

For the third year, the Kenan Center will present an invitational exhibit of fine craft art under the title “Extraordinary Forms III.” This year’s exhibit will focus on fiber and wood, and is guest curated by Gerald Mead. The exhibit will open with a free public reception Sunday, May 20, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., and run through July 15, in the Kenan Center House Gallery, 433 Locust Street, Lockport.

A Statement Released by the Buffalo International Film Festival

Buffalo, NY; New York, NY - The staff and board of The Buffalo International Film Festival mourn the passing of Maurice Sendak (1928-2012) one of the great, truly American authors famed, especially, for his children's books "Where The Wild Things Are" and "In the Night Kitchen" among dozens of others.

Mr. Sendak kindly contributed a written tribute to Mickey Mouse on the occasion of Mickey's 80th Birthday which was celebrated by The Buffalo International Film Festival on April 4, 2009 at Shea's Buffalo Theatre with a once-in-a-lifetime screening of 10 Mickey Mouse classic films and a unique presentation of the special Roadshow version of Walt Disney's Fantasia.

When thinking about a celebration of Mexican culture, you probably don’t immediately associate that with nearby London, Ontario. But indeed, London is where you’ll find a fun annual event called the Fiesta London Mexican Festival, taking place this year from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 10.

Held at the beautiful Covent Garden Market, located at 130 King St., Fiesta London brings the sounds, culture and taste of Mexico to this great Ontario city. A full day of fun, food, Mariachi and fiesta, it all comes together as a highly entertaining cultural experience!

London Fringe Festival to Celebrate the Arts

Festival season is right around the corner in nearby London, Ontario, and the ever-popular London Fringe Festival — a unique exhibition of theater, visual arts, film and the spoken word — is set to take place from June 6-17 at various London locations.

Visions of Lockport

The Erie Canal Discovery Center at 24 Church Street is pleased to offer a free public program and book signing on Saturday, April 28 at 11 a.m. entitled, “Visions of Lockport: A Century in the Blink of an Eye.”  The guest presenter for this program is local historian, Craig Bacon, who will offer insights from the photo-journal of the same name which he compiled in 2010.  This Old Home Week Centennial Publication contains about 100 sepia and color photographs taken around the Lockport area from 1910-2010.  Many of the photos in this pictorial publication were previously unpublished and tell the story of Lockport from some of its earliest times up through the 20th century.
