Roadway Expansion-Joint Replacement Set For April on Route 104/Lewiston Road

LEWISTON—The New York Power Authority (NYPA) today announced that the second phase of a three-phase roadway expansion-joint replacement project is scheduled to begin on April 16.  The first phase of the million-dollar, multiyear project was completed in November 2011, with work done on the southbound section of the Robert Moses Parkway. Phase two, which involves Lewiston Road, Route 104 as it crosses the Robert Moses Dam at the Niagara Power Project, is expected to be completed sometime in November 2012.

The Niagara project’s roadway expansion-joint replacement initiative is the result of NYPA’s 2008 biennial bridge inspection of three state bridges: The Robert Moses Parkway—northbound and southbound lanes and Route 104/ Lewiston Road. A detailed analysis of the structures revealed that 33 of the bridges’ 78 expansion joints were experiencing excessive leakage.
