Grisanti Introduces New Medicaid Fraud Technology That Will Save Taxpayers $5 Billion

Senator Mark Grisanti (R-60) today unveiled new biometric technology during a midday press conference that will combat Medicaid fraud in New York State. Grisanti’s co-sponsorship of bill S.4384 establishes the Medicaid identification and anti-fraud technology program utilizing the science of measuring human body characteristics like fingerprinting for authentication purposes. 

This legislation will require the Department of Health to develop and implement a program using biometric technologies in hospitals, clinics and pharmacies for the purpose of fighting fraud in the Medicaid program by having patients and providers verify their identity prior to payment being made.

NY Senate Passes Grisanti Law Criminalizing Concealment Of Human Corpse

Senator Mark Grisanti (R-60) today announced that the New York State Senate has voted to pass the Bill S6489 which makes it a crime to conceal a death by knowingly moving or otherwise hiding a human corpse so that discovery of the death will be hindered.    The bill known as “Amanda Lynn’s law” would make the commission of this crime a D Felony up from a misdemeanor for the improper disposal of a dead body.

“I am pleased that the Senate has voted to pass this law in honor of Amanda Lynn.  Current law is totally inadequate for the seriousness of the crime of improperly disposing of a human being.  With the passing of Amanda Lynn’s law anyone who attempts to move or conceal a body in the attempt to hinder its discovery will find the full weight of the legal system thrown at them,” said Senator Mark Grisanti (R-60).

While the accompanying articles from Public Integrity and US News may seem dated (2008), they are still the same concerns expressed today by Congresswoman Hochul for all in the 18-Mile Creek watershed and the Great Lakes Areas Of Concern.

Back in 2008, this controversy surrounded then President Bush's decision to not allow the release of these preliminary findings from The Centers For Disease Control and Prevention - Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (CDC -- ATSDR).

Hochul Calls on EPA to Speed 18-Mile Creek Superfund Decision

LOCKPORT, N.Y. – Congresswoman Kathy Hochul today sent a letter to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lisa Jackson requesting she expedite the determination of inclusion of the Eighteen Mile Creek Corridor on the EPA Superfund National Priorities List (NPL).

“After nearly 25 years, the EPA recently proposed adding Eighteen Mile Creek to the Superfund National Priorities List as one of the nation’s most hazardous waste sites,” said Congresswoman Hochul.  “Now, four months after the conclusion of the comment period, it’s time for the EPA to end its review process and finally add Eighteen Mile to the Superfund List.  The people of Lockport have waited long enough for us to clean up this site.”
