F-18 approaching the speed of sound.- From the Thunder over Niagara Air Show, a F-18 at the brink of breaking the sound barrier. Aircraft aren't allowed to break the sound barrier over land (or people for that matter), but this came oh so close. I believe the technical term for the phenomenon in this image is "pressure cone" or "shock cone". Google it.
